This is the hands-on companion to [Checkout: configuration](https://support.ingrid.com/space/KB/11436180/Checkout+configuration) — phase 2 of your [Checkout implementation](https://support.ingrid.com/space/KB/11501718/Checkout+implementation). It walks through the full setup, screen by screen. By the end you will have a working checkout with warehouses, regions, carrier products, and delivery categories.

> ℹ️ This walkthrough covers the **Ingrid Merchant Platform** at [mad.ingrid.com](https://mad.ingrid.com), which is where configuration is done today. If your account has the new [Unified Ingrid interface](https://support.ingrid.com/space/KB/648249347/Unified+Ingrid+interface), the screens differ — the concepts below still apply, but the steps will not match exactly.

## Why configuration matters

How you configure Delivery Checkout shapes what shoppers see at the moment they decide to buy. Getting it right means:

- **Higher conversion** — shoppers see relevant, clearly priced options instead of a confusing list
- **Fewer support contacts** — accurate delivery times and transparent pricing reduce "where is my order?" questions
- **Operational efficiency** — carrier products mapped to the right regions means orders route correctly from day one
- **Flexibility as you grow** — add markets, carriers, or delivery types without rebuilding your checkout

> ℹ️ **Deciding what to build, rather than how?** [Delivery setup patterns](https://support.ingrid.com/space/KB/740982790/Delivery+setup+patterns) covers the three shapes most retailers end up in, and how to choose between them.

---

## Prerequisites

Before you start configuring, make sure you have:

- **Completed scoping** with your implementation consultant — delivery offerings, carrier services, and markets are agreed. See [Checkout: scoping](https://support.ingrid.com/space/KB/11436170/Checkout+scoping).
- **Access to the Ingrid Merchant Platform** — production at [mad.ingrid.com](https://mad.ingrid.com), staging at [mad-stage.ingrid.com](https://mad-stage.ingrid.com)
- **Carrier contracts in place** — active agreements with the carriers you want to offer
- **Your warehouse addresses** — the physical locations your orders ship from
- **External method IDs** — the shipping method identifiers used in your WMS, ERP, or e-commerce platform, so Ingrid can map to your systems

> **New to Ingrid?** Start with [Checkout implementation](https://support.ingrid.com/space/KB/11501718/Checkout+implementation) for the whole journey from scoping to go-live.

## Setup guide

The configuration follows a logical build-up: create the infrastructure first (where you ship from), then the geography (where you ship to), then the shipping services, and finally how they appear to shoppers.

You do all of this in **production**. Changes are held as drafts until you publish, so nothing reaches shoppers before you are ready.

### Step 1: create a warehouse

A warehouse represents the physical location your orders ship from. Every region you configure later must connect to a warehouse.

1. Sign in to the [Ingrid Merchant Platform](https://mad.ingrid.com)
2. Navigate to `Delivery Checkout → Warehouses`
3. Click **"+ Add new"**
4. Enter your warehouse details — name, address, and contact information
5. **Publish your changes** before moving on — click **"Preview changes"** in the top-right corner, review, and click **"Publish"**

![image](media://d3ff5e1b-c0b2-42ae-b69b-23ea38b6a105)

**Full guide**: [Adding a new warehouse](https://support.ingrid.com/space/KB/11436647/Adding+a+new+warehouse)

> **Good to know:** A warehouse can serve multiple regions, but each region connects to only one warehouse. If you ship from a single location, you only need one warehouse.

---

### Step 2: create regions

A region defines the geography where you offer delivery — typically a country, but it can be as granular as zip code ranges.

1. Navigate to `Delivery Checkout → Regions`
2. Click **"+ Add new"** at the bottom left
3. Set a descriptive **name** (for example "Sweden", "Germany", "Rest of EU") — internal only, shoppers never see it
4. Set region type to **Countries included** and select one or more countries
5. Connect the region to a warehouse from step 1
6. Click **"Add"**

**For detailed options** (zip code regions, country exclusions): [Regions](https://support.ingrid.com/space/KB/11436420/Regions)

**Visual walkthrough**: [How do I add a region?](https://support.ingrid.com/space/KB/11436491/How+do+I+add+a+region)

> **Tip:** Start with one region per country. You can always split into more granular regions later — for example separating a metro area from the rest of a country for same-day delivery.

---

### Step 3: add carrier products to each region

Carrier products are the actual shipping services you offer.

1. Open the region you created in step 2
2. Scroll to the **Carrier Products** section
3. Click **"+ Add new"**
4. Select a **shipping method** from the list of available carrier products
5. Set the **external method ID** — this links the Ingrid carrier product to the matching shipping method in your WMS or ERP. See [External method ID](https://support.ingrid.com/space/KB/11437075/External+method+ID).
6. Define the **cut-off time** — the latest an order can be placed to ship the same day
7. Configure pricing and rules:

| Setting | What it does | Learn more |
| --- | --- | --- |
| **Base price** | The default shipping price if no price rules apply | — |
| **Price rules** | Conditional pricing — for example free shipping over a cart threshold | — |
| **Filter rules** | Control when this carrier product appears — by weight, cart value, country, and so on | [Filter rules](https://support.ingrid.com/space/KB/11534881/Filter+rules) |

**Full guide**: [Adding a carrier product](https://support.ingrid.com/space/KB/11436864/Adding+a+Carrier+product)

> **Tip:** Add all carrier products to the region before creating delivery categories — you will need them in the next step.

---

### Step 4: create delivery categories

Delivery categories are what shoppers actually see — labels like "Home delivery", "Pickup point", or "Express". Each category groups one or more carrier products under a shopper-friendly name.

![image](media://7ccf86f0-bc22-4fd6-9309-4b379378fe9d)

1. In your region page, scroll to **Delivery Categories** at the bottom
2. Click **"+ Add"**
3. Enter a **base name** (for example "Home delivery")
4. Select the **delivery type**: Delivery, Pickup, Mailbox, or Instore
5. Set the **sort order** — this controls the display position in checkout. See [Sort order](https://support.ingrid.com/space/KB/11469499/Sort+order).
6. Configure **delivery time** — dynamic (calculated from carrier data and your cut-off times) or static. See [Setting up delivery time](https://support.ingrid.com/space/KB/11501959/Setting+up+delivery+time).
7. Click **"+ Add new"** under carrier products to link one or more to this category
8. Configure additional settings:

| Setting | What it does | Learn more |
| --- | --- | --- |
| **Translations** | Display name per language and locale — if not set, the base name is shown | [Setting up translations](https://support.ingrid.com/space/KB/14614543/Setting+up+translations) |
| **Category labels** | Visual labels like "Eco-friendly" or "Fastest", shown to shoppers | [Category labels](https://support.ingrid.com/space/KB/11535193/Category+labels) |
| **Category tags** | System-level identifiers for your integration, not visible to shoppers | [Category tags](https://support.ingrid.com/space/KB/11535193/Category+labels) |
| **Filter rules** | Control when this category appears in checkout | [Filter rules](https://support.ingrid.com/space/KB/11534881/Filter+rules) |

9. **Set preselection order** — this determines which category is auto-selected when checkout loads

![image](media://0c94c18b-fb73-480a-821e-869afc63be5a)

- Click **"Set preselection order"**
- Drag and drop categories into your preferred order
- Click **"Accept"**

> **Important:** A delivery category must have at least one carrier product linked to appear in checkout. Preselection works as a cascade — if the first option is not available for a given address, the next one is selected automatically.

**Full guides**: [Delivery categories](https://support.ingrid.com/space/KB/11469537/Delivery+categories) | [Adding a delivery category](https://support.ingrid.com/space/KB/11469574/Adding+a+Delivery+Category)

---

### Step 5: publish and check your work

**Publish your configuration:**

1. Click **"Preview changes"** in the top-right corner
2. Review all pending changes
3. Click **"Publish"**

**Check it behaves as expected:**

1. Open the **Test Checkout Widget** in the Ingrid Merchant Platform
2. Enter a test address in each region you configured
3. Verify the correct delivery categories and carrier products appear
4. Check that delivery times and prices display correctly

#### Your staging environment

Before go-live, Ingrid replicates your finished configuration into **staging**, so that from launch onward you have a configured staging environment to test future changes in. The two environments do not sync, so this is a deliberate copy rather than something that happens by itself.

> ℹ️ Full testing and launch — the three testing layers, the end-to-end booking flow, and go-live itself — is covered in [Checkout: testing & go-live](https://support.ingrid.com/space/KB/11469099/Checkout+testing+go-live). This page stops at "the configuration is correct."

## Troubleshooting

**A delivery category does not appear in checkout**

- **Cause:** No carrier product is linked, the category is not active, or changes were not published
- **Fix:** Check at least one carrier product is added, verify the category is toggled to **Active**, then **"Preview changes" → "Publish"**

**The wrong delivery options appear for a country**

- **Cause:** The country is assigned to the wrong region, or carrier products were added to the wrong region
- **Fix:** Go to `Delivery Checkout → Regions` and verify each country maps to the correct region, then check the carrier products inside it

**A free shipping rule is not working**

- **Cause:** The price rule has the wrong threshold value, the wrong condition type, or is applied to the wrong carrier product
- **Fix:** Open the carrier product, check **Price rules**, and verify the condition is "Total Cart Value" with the correct amount — in the currency used for that region

**Delivery time shows as "Unknown" or looks wrong**

- **Cause:** Delivery time is not configured for the category, the warehouse schedule is missing, or no cut-off time is set
- **Fix:** See [Setting up delivery time](https://support.ingrid.com/space/KB/11501959/Setting+up+delivery+time) — check whether you are using dynamic or static delivery time, and that all required fields are filled

**Preselection does not work as expected**

- **Cause:** Preselection order is not set, or your preferred category is not available for the test address
- **Fix:** Check preselection order in the region settings. Remember it cascades — test with an address where your preferred category is genuinely available. See [Preselection order](https://support.ingrid.com/space/KB/11469608/Preselection+order).

**Changes are not visible after saving**

- **Cause:** Changes were saved but not published
- **Fix:** Click **"Preview changes"** then **"Publish"**. All configuration changes require publishing before they take effect.

## Frequently asked questions

**Can I configure the checkout myself, or does Ingrid need to do it?**
You can do most of the configuration yourself. Your implementation consultant supports you with initial setup, training, and review, and coaches your team to run it independently afterward. See [Can we do our own configuration of Ingrid Delivery Checkout?](https://support.ingrid.com/space/KB/11534997/Can+we+do+our+own+configuration+of+Ingrid+Delivery+Checkout)

**How long does configuration take?**
It depends on how many markets and carrier products you need. For what drives the timeline of a whole implementation, see [What shapes your timeline](https://support.ingrid.com/space/KB/741343233/What+shapes+your+timeline).

**Can I check my configuration before shoppers see it?**
Yes. Configuration is held as a draft until you publish, and the **Test Checkout Widget** shows exactly what shoppers will see.

**What if I need a carrier that is not in the list?**
Carrier products must be enabled for your account before they appear. Check the [carrier library](https://carrier.ingrid.com) for what is integrated, and ask your implementation consultant to enable it.

**Can I have different pricing per country?**
Yes. Each region has its own carrier products with independent pricing and price rules, so base prices and free shipping thresholds can differ per region.

**What happens if I publish a mistake?**
You can update and re-publish at any time, and changes take effect immediately after publishing.

**How do I add a new market later?**
Same steps: create a region for the country, add carrier products, create delivery categories, set preselection order, publish. Your existing configuration is unaffected.

---

## Limitations

- Each region connects to **only one warehouse**. If you ship the same region from several warehouses, ask your implementation consultant about routing options.
- **Preselection preference** — refining which pickup points are preselected — is off by default and must be enabled by Ingrid. See [Preselection preference](https://support.ingrid.com/space/KB/11535023/Preselection+preference).
- Delivery time calculations depend on carrier data availability. Not every carrier provides real-time estimates.
- Filter rules use AND logic within a single rule. For OR conditions you may need multiple carrier products.
- **Not self-service:** custom widget styling, carrier product activation, and [split checkout](https://support.ingrid.com/space/KB/85655561/Split+Checkout) setups all need Ingrid involvement.
